The Indonesian Consumer Foundation (YLKI) has stated that an increase in the National Health Insurance (JKN) contribution fee should not be the primary focus without a thorough assessment of the public’s ability to pay.

According to YLKI, the ideal tariff should consider people’s income and purchasing power.

“YLKI reminds that a too-high increase could burden the public and create arrears,” said YLKI Executive Secretary Rio Priambodo when contacted on Wednesday (February 25).

In addition, Rio also believes that the increase in contributions has the potential to trigger more participants who are unable to pay, which causes payment arrears to increase and adds to BPJS’s financial problems.

Therefore, YLKI asks the government to focus on eliminating contribution fines to encourage payments without being burdened by fines.

“The government’s discourse about eliminating fines is still just talk. YLKI asks that this be realized immediately to ease participants’ payments without being burdened by fines that drain their wallets,” said Rio.

He believes that the sustainability of JKN should not only depend on contributions from participants, but there should be other alternatives such as the imposition of excise duties on tobacco products as a subsidy for JKN health costs.

“In addition, the government should also pursue the level of contribution payment compliance for companies so that it can cover BPJS’s shortcomings. And most importantly, there must be strict action against fraud that still occurs in hospitals so that BPJS’s budget does not leak,” he concluded. (Iam/P-3)

The Head of Public Relations of BPJS Kesehatan, Rizzky Anugerah, responded to the Minister of Health’s statement regarding the increase in JKN participant contributions.

The appointment of Major General TNI (Ret.) dr. Prihati Pujowaskito as Director General of BPJS Kesehatan for the 2026-2031 period is expected to provide firmness in resolving the problems of the JKN program.

The Ministry of Health has affirmed that hospitals should not reject PBI participants with inactive JKN status for up to three months.

The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has guaranteed the security of 270,000 Jakarta residents who hold PBI BPJS Kesehatan cards.

Member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Edy Wuryanto, assessed that the sudden deactivation of PBI BPJS Kesehatan membership has opened a serious gap in the protection of health for poor people.

The Coordinator of BPJS Watch Advocacy, Timboel Siregar, said that the increase in BPJS Kesehatan contributions should not be applied to independent participants in classes 1, 2, and 3 or the middle class.

However, YLKI reminds that the policy of increasing contributions should not burden the public, especially from the economic side of the participants.

Member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Irma Suryani, responded to the issue of increasing JKN program contributions.

The Head of Public Relations of BPJS Kesehatan, Rizzky Anugerah, responded to the Minister of Health’s statement regarding the increase in JKN participant contributions.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the increase in BPJS Kesehatan contribution rates would not burden poor people. This is because the group is paid for by the government.
