YLKI Emphasises Comprehensive Evaluation of Railway Crossing System
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Consumers’ Foundation (YLKI) has emphasised the importance of a comprehensive evaluation of the railway crossing system to prevent a recurrence of the accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a KRL in the future.
“Local governments must actively identify illegal railway crossings and firmly close them for the safety and security of the public,” said YLKI’s Daily Administrator Rio Priambodo in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Rio also stated that YLKI is urging the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to immediately conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
YLKI also stressed that handling the victims must be the top priority. YLKI, continued Rio, extends its deepest condolences for the train accident that befell the passengers, particularly vulnerable consumer groups who were also victims in the Argo Bromo Anggrek and KRL train accident on 27 April 2026.
President Prabowo Subianto has approved the construction of a flyover in Bekasi, West Java, to prevent a recurrence of accidents at railway crossings, following the collision incident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night.
Prabowo said the flyover construction was proposed by the Bekasi local government because the area is densely populated and the need for railway transportation is very urgent.
According to him, many railway crossings in the area are not guarded, thus requiring immediate handling for public safety and smooth transportation.
In addition to Bekasi, Prabowo also mentioned around 1,800 railway crossing points on Java Island that face similar issues, so improvements need to be carried out immediately.
