YLBHI Suspects Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus was a Large-Scale, Systematic, and Organised Operation
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) and the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) suspect that the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus was a planned operation.
This suspicion arises following findings of more than four unidentified persons (OTK) believed to be involved in the incident on Thursday (12/3/2026).
“Based on our independent tracing of the evidence, we have found indications that this action was a large-scale operation that was systematic and organised,” said YLBHI Advocacy Staff and member of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) Afif Abdul Qoyum at the YLBHI office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
Afif added that the findings from YLBHI and KontraS refute the police statement claiming that the perpetrators of the acid attack numbered only four.
Based on CCTV recordings, OTK 1 and OTK 2 played direct roles in executing the acid attack on Jalan Salemba I, near Talang Bridge, Senen, Central Jakarta.
OTK 1 threw the liquid at Andrie Yunus, while OTK 2 rode the motorbike to carry OTK 1. The attack occurred at 23:37 WIB on Thursday.
After carrying out the attack, the two OTK fled towards Jalan Salemba. In the CCTV recording, the motorbike appeared to wobble.
“The perpetrator seemed to lean to the left, as if dropping a cup. Wobbling. That is our analysis of OTK 1 and OTK 2 after the acid attack; the motorbike wobbled and also threw the cup,” Afif explained.
Based on CCTV recordings around the YLBHI office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, it is suspected that five people were conducting surveillance on Andrie Yunus.
Two of the five people were OTK 1 and OTK 2, who executed the attack on Jalan Salemba I.
In the CCTV recording, the surveillance was allegedly carried out from across the YLBHI office, specifically near the Metropole area.
Several vehicles were parked at the location, one of which was black, and two people were seen talking at the surveillance point.
“From several durations of monitoring across the YLBHI building, we identified OTK 1 and OTK 2 as already surveilling the victim Andrie Yunus since at the YLBHI office on Jalan Diponegoro from 20:49 WIB,” Afif stated.
