YLBHI Demands Revelation of Command Chain in Acid Attack Case Against Andrie Yunus

Jakarta - The Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Muhammad Isnur, suspects the involvement of high-ranking officers in the acid attack case against Kontras activist Andrie Yunus.

Isnur explained that the suspicion arises because the field perpetrators are officers, suggesting the operation orders came from a higher level in the military structure.

“Moreover, the field executors are officers. That means those who ordered them are high-ranking officers,” Isnur said at the RI House of Representatives Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Additionally, the perpetrators’ calm and confident demeanour in carrying out the act indicates guarantees or protection from certain parties.

“And in military doctrine, no action, effort, or operation may occur without orders. Therefore, it is clear there was an order, there was a command, and the entire command chain upwards must be revealed and investigated,” Isnur stated.

“That’s why Prabowo’s order is actually the same: who ordered it, who even funded it. All of this must be dismantled,” Isnur added.

Previously reported, Andrie Yunus was doused with acid by soldiers from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) in Central Jakarta on Thursday night (12/3/2026).

Kontras Working Body Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya said the attack caused the victim injuries to several parts of his body.

“Especially on the right and left hand areas, face, chest, and eye area,” Dimas said on Friday (13/3/2026). The incident occurred after Andrie finished recording a podcast titled “Militarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the YLBHI Jakarta office around 23:00 WIB.

“The incident happened shortly after Andrie Yunus completed recording a podcast at the Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office titled ‘Militarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia’, which finished around 23:00 WIB,” Dimas said.

After that, Andrie left the location on a motorcycle.

Around 23:37 WIB, while passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, two perpetrators approached the victim from the opposite direction on one motorcycle.

One of the perpetrators then threw acid towards the victim, hitting his body.

As a result, Andrie screamed in pain and fell from the motorcycle.

The victim was then rushed to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment, especially for the eye area.

Dimas emphasised that no belongings of the victim were missing in the incident.
