YKAI to hold seminar on child abuse
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Foundation for Children's Welfare
(YKAI) will hold a two-day seminar, starting Monday, to discuss
methods and policies on rights to protect children from abuse in
the family.
The foundation's chairwoman, Lily I. Rilantono, said the
seminar is held in cooperation with the Malaysian Council for
Child Welfare, the International Society for Prevention of Child
Abuse and Neglect (IPSCAN), and Indonesia's Ministry of Social
Affairs.
Lily said that child abuse in Indonesia is related to economic
development because many children are used under their parents'
pressure for begging and prostitution.
The seminar will feature Indonesian experts in forensics and
criminology. A Malaysian expert will discuss his country's
experience with child abuse.
These speakers are forensics specialist Mu'nim Idris from
Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital, and University of Indonesia's
criminology professor Purnianti, and Sham Kasim of Malaysia. (01)
