During the Ramadan month, Yayasan Indonesia Setara (YIS), in collaboration with the Gerakan Masyarakat Wirausaha, organised a training programme on making Lebaran cookies for housewives. The event, titled ‘Viral Recipe, Maximum Profit Opportunity: Choco Chips Cookies & Pandan Sago Cheese with Palm Sugar’, drew 51 participants in the Tapos area of Depok City on Thursday 5 March 2026. YIS founder Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the training forms part of the foundation’s commitment to promoting community economic empowerment, particularly for women. He said the programme is expected to help women attain economic independence and to dispel the stigma that women are only active in the home. ‘This training aims to open business opportunities for emak-emak. So emak-emak can be independent; as Lebaran approaches, they can reap profits,’ Sandiaga said in a press release in Jakarta on Saturday 6 March 2026. He said the choice of training on making a dry cookie was due to its perceived large market potential ahead of Lebaran. Dry cookie products generally see high demand during that period. ‘This Lebaran period can be used to start a business; cookies, for example, are in particularly high demand right now,’ he said. In the initial session of the programme, participants were taught how to make two types of cookies: chocolate chip cookies and pandan-flavoured sago with cheese and palm sugar. The two menu items were chosen because their ingredients are relatively cheap, easily obtained, and can be adapted to the sellers’ creativity.
