YIS Entrepreneurship Training Yields Orders, Participants Earn Millions of Rupiah from Frozen Food
A women’s empowerment programme through the Workshop Perempuan Berdaya organised by Yayasan Indonesia Setara (YIS) is beginning to have a direct impact on participants in Ciawi, Bogor Regency, and Depok, West Java. The training does not stop at providing skills for making frozen food. A number of participants have already been able to market their products and secure orders amounting to hundreds of items.
The Workshop Perempuan Berdaya in Ciawi, held on 13 August 2026, received a positive response from participants. After attending the training, 20 participants secured pre-orders (PO) totalling 2,090 pieces. Among the participants, Rahmawati received the highest number of orders at 231 pieces, while Vera secured 186 pieces. If each product is sold at an estimated price of Rp5,000 per piece, Rahmawati could potentially earn turnover of Rp1,155,000. Vera is estimated to earn around Rp930,000 from the orders she received. This achievement shows that the skills acquired during the workshop can be directly applied to income-generating business activities.
The positive impact of a similar programme was also seen at the Workshop Perempuan Berdaya held in Depok on 19 August 2026. After the training, participants began applying the knowledge they had gained by producing and marketing various frozen food products. Denny Rahayu was recorded as the participant with the highest number of pre-orders at 245 pieces, followed by Melly with 210 pieces. Assuming a product selling price of Rp8,000 per piece, Denny Rahayu could potentially earn Rp1,960,000, while Melly is estimated to receive Rp1,680,000 from those orders.
Founder of Yayasan Indonesia Setara (YIS), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, believes that women’s empowerment programmes should not merely focus on improving technical capabilities. According to him, participants also need encouragement to be brave enough to start a business and develop it based on the skills they already possess. Sandiaga said that the experience of receiving orders can be an important part of shaping participants’ entrepreneurial mindset and mentality.
“The entrepreneurial spirit grows when we dare to start, dare to try, and are not afraid to face challenges. Training becomes more meaningful when the knowledge gained is immediately put into practice into products that can be sold,” said Sandiaga.
He also reminded participants to treat the training as a first step towards continuously improving their abilities. Developing product quality, expanding marketing, and maintaining consumer trust are considered important for business sustainability. “Do not see the first order as the end, but as the beginning of a journey. From one order, it can grow into dozens, hundreds, or even a larger business. The important thing is to be consistent, creative and keep learning,” he said.
The pre-orders obtained by participants in Ciawi and Depok illustrate that women’s empowerment training can provide more concrete benefits when the skills taught are accompanied by opportunities to market products. Through the programme, participants not only learn how to produce frozen food. They also gain experience in developing products, seeking and receiving orders, calculating potential income, and building confidence to start a business.
The success in obtaining pre-orders also serves as an initial experience for participants to learn about business processes directly. In practice, they learn to determine which products have demand, calculate estimated selling prices, fulfil consumer order quantities, and maintain product quality to meet customer expectations. Thus, the Workshop Perempuan Berdaya not only provides production skills but also opens space for participants to begin learning about the entrepreneurial process and test their abilities through the market directly.
