YIA Ensures Normal Operations Ahead of Waisak Holiday
Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) management in Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has confirmed that all flight operations will proceed normally and smoothly ahead of the Waisak 2570 Buddhist Era (BE) holiday on 31 May 2026.
YIA General Manager Muhammad Thamrin said passenger movements at the airport remain relatively stable so far. “We continue to monitor and prepare operations to ensure optimal service for passengers during the extended holiday period. Passenger traffic and flight movements are being closely monitored throughout the Waisak holiday,” he said.
YIA, along with all stakeholders, has prepared contingency measures to ensure smooth operations. These include terminal service oversight, security, flight safety, and intensive coordination among relevant agencies.
To support smooth travel, Thamrin urged passengers to check their departure schedules and arrive at the airport early. “We advise passengers to arrive early and utilise available digital services and public transport to enhance travel comfort,” he added.
As the primary air transport gateway for the Special Region of Yogyakarta, YIA is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and memorable services for all passengers, including during national and religious holidays.
To enhance passenger comfort and create memorable travel experiences, the airport has incorporated cultural harmony elements at various terminal points in anticipation of the Waisak celebrations at Borobudur Temple.
“With these preparations, Yogyakarta International Airport is ready to accommodate increased passenger mobility during the extended holiday while maintaining service standards, safety, and flight security,” Thamrin said.
