YIA Debarkation Ready toFacilitate Hajj Pilgrims' Return without dormitory stay
YIA Haj debarkation in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Special Region, is ready to facilitate the first return of Haj pilgrims without passing through dormitories on Tuesday, 2 June. Various supporting facilities and the Hajj Pilgrimage Implementation Committee (PPIH) have been deployed to handle the first arrival group in the country. Acting head of the Yogyakarta Special Region’s Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office, Silvia Rosetti, said the debarkation system adopts a hotel-based embarkation model, the first of its kind in Indonesia. ‘Passengers will disembark from the aircraft and proceed directly into the airport, where we have prepared a space for health checks, document verification, and the process of returning to their hometowns,’ she said. Silvia explained that after health checks and document submission, Haj pilgrims will be directed to a prayer room before being guided to buses arranged by their respective local governments. She noted that this debarkation process is more efficient as it reduces bureaucracy and minimises location changes for pilgrims after their flights. Regarding airport facilities, dedicated spaces have been prepared for temperature checks, immigration administrative processes such as passport and travel document verification, and health declaration form processing. Silvia added that if a pilgrim is found to be ill or requires emergency medical attention during checks, the committee has a referral system to nearby health facilities like Temon Community Health Centre or Wates Regional Hospital. ‘However, if the pilgrim’s condition can be managed by YIA medical teams, referral is unnecessary,’ she said. To ensure smooth arrivals, pilgrim movement after landing at YIA will be guided via the apron, similar to departure routes, to prevent interference with regular passenger traffic in the arrivals terminal. Meanwhile, for logistics, PPIH has deployed specialized support staff to assist with baggage handling. ’ We have also arranged support staff for baggage collection,’ Silvia said.
