Yesterday's Legal Roundup: WIKA Office Searched, Muara Enim Corruption Evidence Revealed

Investigators from the Police Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipidkor) seized a number of documents after searching the office of a state-owned construction firm on Jalan D.I. Panjaitan, East Jakarta. The search is related to an investigation into alleged corruption in the revitalisation and modernisation project of the Assembagoes Sugar Factory in Situbondo. Head of the Investigation Team, Commissioner Gunawan, stated that the evidence consisted of documents in both soft copy and hard copy formats, including electronic evidence in the form of emails.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detailed evidence worth approximately Rp1.9 billion in the bribery case implicating Muara Enim Regent Edison. Acting Director of Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein explained that the evidence included cash amounting to Rp323 million seized from a backpack belonging to Abi Nurwardani, the Secretary of the Muara Enim Education and Culture Office.

Public prosecutor Roy Riady from the Attorney General’s Office asserted that defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim not only had malicious intent in the alleged Chromebook corruption case but had also followed through with a series of unlawful acts. The statement was made during a hearing for a replication response to the plea at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta.

The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections deported 25 foreign nationals for misusing their residence permits by engaging in commercial photography and videography activities in Indonesia. Minister Agus Andrianto stressed that law enforcement against the misuse of residence permits is part of the state’s efforts to protect the public and national business actors from harmful practices.
