Jakarta - Various legal developments were reported by ANTARA news agency on Wednesday, 17 June, ranging from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) beginning to summon witnesses in the Silmy Karim case to the Attorney General’s Office sealing a warehouse of electric motorcycles belonging to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in Bogor. The KPK has started summoning witnesses in an alleged extortion case at the Directorate General of Immigration involving Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections for the 2024-2026 period, Silmy Karim, and seven other suspects. “The KPK has scheduled witness examinations regarding alleged extortion related to the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals at the Directorate General of Immigration for the years 2022–2026,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta. Separately, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights assessed that the evaluation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme should focus on improving governance so that the fulfilment of citizens’ basic rights can run more optimally. Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance Munafrizal Manan stated that MBG is fundamentally a state policy to fulfil the economic and social rights of the community, particularly the right to food and improving the quality of life of vulnerable groups. In another case, corporate defendant PT Acset Indonusa was sentenced to a criminal fine of Rp350 million in connection with the alleged corruption case in the construction of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) elevated toll road, the Japek II Elevated section Cikunir-Karawang Barat. Presiding Judge Lucy Ermawati declared the company proven to have enriched itself by Rp179.99 billion through the Waskita Acset joint operation in the case, causing state financial losses. The KPK also examined a lecturer from the Indonesian Land Transportation Polytechnic (PTDI), Dandun Prakosa, as a witness in the investigation into alleged bribery in railway construction and maintenance projects within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA). “The examination took place at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta, under the name DP,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo. Meanwhile, investigators from the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes at the Attorney General’s Office sealed a warehouse of electric motorcycles belonging to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in Bogor Regency, West Java. The sealing is related to an alleged corruption case in the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme at BGN for the years 2025–2026.
