- Medan District Court Judge Acquits Amsal Sitepu Due to Unproven Corruption
The panel of judges at the Corruption Court within the Medan District Court issued an acquittal verdict for Amsal Christy Sitepu, deeming it unproven that he committed corruption in the village profile video production project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.
“The panel acquits Amsal Christy Sitepu as it is not proven that he committed the criminal act of corruption,” stated Chief Judge Yusafrihardi Girsang in the Cakra Utama courtroom at the Medan District Court on Wednesday.
In the verdict’s legal considerations, the panel opined that the defendant’s actions were not proven, as per the public prosecutor’s primary and subsidiary charges from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office.
- Former Supreme Court Secretary Nurhadi Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison in Gratuity and Money Laundering Case
Supreme Court Secretary from 2011–2016, Nurhadi, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for being proven to have received gratuities and committed money laundering offences.
Chief Judge Fajar Kusuma Aji determined that Nurhadi was proven to have received gratuities amounting to Rp137.16 billion from various parties and conducted money laundering of Rp308.04 billion by placing them in rupiah and foreign currency accounts.
“The defendant is declared legally and convincingly guilty of committing the aforementioned corruption offence, as per the first public prosecutor’s charge,” he stated during the reading of the panel’s verdict at the Corruption Court within the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday.
- IKAHI: International Private Law Bill to Enhance Indonesia’s International Credibility
The Indonesian Judges Association (IKAHI) stated that the Draft Law on International Private Law (RUU HPI) can enhance the credibility of Indonesia’s judicial system internationally.
IKAHI General Chairman Yanto, during a public hearing with the Special Committee for the RUU HPI at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, described the RUU HPI as a strategic instrument to realise legal certainty, justice, and the usefulness of law in the era of globalisation.
“(The RUU HPI) provides clear and systematic guidelines, reduces inconsistencies in rulings, facilitates the application of law in civil cases with foreign elements, and enhances the credibility of Indonesia’s judicial system internationally,” he said.
- DPR Commission III to Summon Karo District Prosecutor Over Amsal Sitepu Case
Chairman of DPR RI Commission III, Habiburokhman, stated that they will summon the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, North Sumatra, and the Prosecutors’ Commission (Komjak) regarding the controversy in the case involving videographer Amsal Sitepu.
According to him, the leadership at the Attorney General’s Office consists of reformist individuals open to public criticism channelled through DPR RI Commission III. However, he wants lower-level prosecutors, such as the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, to conduct evaluations as he expressed disappointment.
“We will summon the Karo District Prosecutor along with their prosecutors tomorrow (Thursday, 2 April 2025), and we will also invite the Prosecutors’ Commission to evaluate such cases,” said Habiburokhman at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
- KPK: President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Have Reported 2025 Assets
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced that President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have submitted their periodic state officials’ wealth reports (LHKPN) for the 2025 reporting year.
“We need to convey in response to colleagues’ questions that the President and Vice President have submitted their LHKPN on time,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Budi said the public can access the President and Vice President’s LHKPN openly once published via the elhkpn.kpk.go.id website.
