Yesterday's economy: Rice aid to MK and KY building progress in IKN
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has tasked Perum Bulog with distributing 997.2 thousand tonnes of rice food aid in the second phase to 33.24 million beneficiary families (KPM) starting 17 August 2026. This aims to maintain purchasing power and national food stability. Head of Bapanas and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the distribution of rice food aid is one of the social safety nets to maintain people’s purchasing power, strengthen national food stability, and help meet family food needs.
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs General TNI (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago stated that Indonesia remains attractive to investors amid global economic dynamics, thanks to its natural resources, vast territory, and open development space. Minister Djamari said the still large development needs are one of the factors making Indonesia have high investment opportunities because many sectors can still be developed to support national economic growth.
Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Esther Sri Astuti assessed that providing electric vehicle (EV) incentives focused on national vehicles is a catalyst for automotive industry development, while accelerating the transition towards sustainable vehicles. According to her, electric vehicle incentives are a positive step to encourage people to switch to using green vehicles. However, this policy needs to be accompanied by supporting strategies so that its benefits are more optimal.
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is strengthening efforts to increase exports of Indonesian agricultural products and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to Japan through strategic collaboration with various parties to expand market access for national superior products. Vice Chairwoman for Agriculture of Kadin Indonesia Devi Erna Rachmawati said Japan is one of the strategic markets with high demand for quality and environmentally friendly agricultural products.
The physical construction progress of the Constitutional Court (MK) and Judicial Commission (KY) Building in the judicial area located in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province, has now reached 12.41 per cent. “The IKN judicial area officially began construction in December 2025, in the second phase of construction,” said Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono when asked about the continuation of the new capital city development in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser, on Saturday.
