Yesterday's court rulings: Delpedro acquitted and KPK traces assets of Fadia Arafiq
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A series of legal developments yesterday (6 March) drew attention, ranging from Delpedro and his co-defendants being acquitted of incitement in connection with the August riot that ended in clashes, to the KPK tracing assets related to the corruption case involving Fadia Arafiq.

Delpedro Marhaen, Executive Director of Lokataru Foundation, and his co-defendants were acquitted of charges of incitement connected with the August 2025 protest that ended in clashes, in a verdict handed down by the panel of judges at the Central Jakarta District Court on Friday. Besides Delpedro, three other defendants acquitted by the panel were Lokataru staff Muzaffar Salim, Gejayan Memanggil administrator Syahdan Husein, and administrator Khariq Anhar of the Alliance of Plaintiff Students. “The defendants were not proven guilty of the offenses as charged in the second, third and fourth alternative counts in the prosecution’s indictment,” said Chief Judge Harika Nova Yeri.
- Yusril: Delpedro’s acquittal shows the judiciary operates independently
Coordinating Minister for Legal, Political and Security Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the acquittal of Delpedro Marhaen and colleagues demonstrated that judicial processes are independent and free from government intervention. He noted that the government has fulfilled its commitment not to interfere in the legal process. “The courts have shown their independence, and the government has not intervened in any way during the proceedings,” Yusril told journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
- The police destroy 47.5 kilograms of meth and 101,380 Happy Five tablets
The Police’s Drug Investigation Directorate (Dittipidnarkoba) of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) destroyed 47.562 kilograms or 47.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and 101,380 tablets of Happy Five. Sub-Directorate 4 of the Drug Investigation Directorate, Kombes Pol Handik Zusen, told reporters in Jakarta on Friday that the destruction took place at PT Wastec in Cilegon, Banten, on Thursday (5 March). He explained that the confiscated drugs originated from three meth cases and one case involving the Happy Five tablets.
- In a two-tonne meth case, Batam District Court sentences Thai crew to life imprisonment
The Batam District Court, Riau Islands, handed down a life sentence to Thai national Weerapat Phongwan, a crew member of the Sea Dragon, in a narcotics smuggling case involving nearly two tonnes of methamphetamine. “Weerapat Phongwan is sentenced to life imprisonment,” said Panel Chair Tiwik in Batam on Friday. The panel found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt of conspiracy to commit wrongdoing without rights or unlawfully, and of acting as an intermediary in the sale of class-1 narcotics weighed over five grams, as charged by the prosecutors.
- KPK traces assets of Fadia Arafiq linked to corruption case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is tracing assets of Pekalongan non-active Regent Fadia Arafiq (FAR) that are linked to the alleged corruption case. “Investigators are still tracing other assets allegedly under FAR’s control, including real estate such as houses,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Friday. He said that if these assets are confirmed to be related to the corruption case involving Fadia Arafiq, the KPK will seize them.
