Yesterday: World Mangrove Day to earthquake in Kupang
A number of news items from Sunday (26/7) remain interesting to read, ranging from World Mangrove Day to a magnitude 5.5 earthquake that shook Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
1.) Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries: Mangrove rehabilitation must support food security
Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Sakti Wahyu Trenggono emphasised that mangrove rehabilitation must not stop at mere planting activities, but must restore the ecological functions of coastal ecosystems and be able to support food security, as well as the economy of coastal communities.
Wahyu Trenggono, while attending the peak event of World Mangrove Day in Denpasar on Sunday, stated that mangroves have a strategic role as protectors of coastal areas, nursery habitats for various marine biota, blue carbon absorbers, and supporters of coastal community livelihoods.
2.) Health Ministry implements drug procurement efficiency, overhauls hospital accreditation system
The Ministry of Health is implementing cost efficiency in medical treatment and overhauling the hospital accreditation system to be based on clinical outcomes in order to curb health cost inflation while improving patient safety guarantees in Indonesia.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said in Jakarta on Sunday that the high growth in health costs is being addressed through the centralised procurement (pool procurement) of drugs and Medical Consumables (BMHP) based on SatuSehat data.
3.) Magnitude 5.5 earthquake shakes Kupang, NTT
An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.5 shook Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara on Sunday evening at 19:00 WITA.
According to the official account of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Geophysics Station, the earthquake’s coordinate point was located at 10.00 degrees south latitude and 123.71 degrees east longitude.
4.) Tulungagung reduces target for Sekolah Rakyat classes due to lack of interest
The Tulungagung Regency Government, East Java, has reduced the target number of study groups (rombel) for the primary school level at Sekolah Rakyat after struggling to meet the needs of prospective new students for the boarding school education system.
Head of the Tulungagung Regency Social Service Reni Prasetiawati Ika Septiwulan in Tulungagung on Sunday said the initial proposal of three study groups for the primary level was adjusted to two following discussions with the central government.
5.) BMKG says Kupang earthquake triggered by subduction activity
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the tectonic earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 that shook the Kupang area, East Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday (26/7) at 18:57 WITA was a shallow earthquake caused by subduction activity and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
Head of the Kupang Geophysics Station Arief Tyastama in Kupang on Sunday evening explained that the earthquake’s epicentre was on land, approximately 18 kilometres northeast of Kupang, at coordinates 10.16 degrees South Latitude and 123.77 degrees East Longitude, with a depth of 44 kilometres.
