Yesterday: No Mass Layoffs for Non-Civil Servant Teachers; Students Can Suggest MBG Programme Menus
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A selection of selected news items from Monday (10/5) can be reviewed again, ranging from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education stating there will be no mass layoffs of non-civil servant teachers in 2026 to the Head of the National Nutrition Agency stating that students can propose menus for the MBG programme.
1.) Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education: No Mass Layoffs of Non-Civil Servant Teachers in 2026
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has affirmed that it will not conduct mass termination of employment (PHK) for 237,196 non-civil servant teachers who are registered in the Basic Education Data System (Dapodik), allowing them to remain active in teaching until 31 December 2026.
The Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Dirjen GTK) of Kemendikdasmen, Nunuk Suryani, stated that the ministry still requires the roles of these non-civil servant teachers during the ongoing process of restructuring teacher needs formation.
2.) Soekarno-Hatta Airport Reinstates Health Standards for International Travel
The Major Health Quarantine Centre (BBKK) at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, has reinstated health standards for air travellers from abroad as a measure to anticipate the emergence of Hantavirus transmission cases.
This action follows the World Health Organization (WHO) identifying transmission cases affecting three cruise ship passengers who died from the virus.
3.) Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection: University Task Forces Must Provide Safe Spaces for Violence Victims
The Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, emphasised that the Task Force (Satgas) for Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT) must provide safe spaces for victims of violence.
“Higher education institutions have the responsibility to create a safe, comfortable, violence-free, and inclusive learning environment. With the establishment of the PPKPT Task Force on campus, it is hoped that efforts to create a safe learning environment can be realised,” said Minister PPPA Arifah Fauzi in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
4.) Head of National Nutrition Agency: Students Can Propose Menus for MBG Programme
The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, stated that student recipients of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme can propose food menus according to their preferences through the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG).
“They will be accommodated by the SPPG that distributes them. Usually, they will write what they want, and the SPPG side is then obliged to ask according to what they want,” said Dadan after inaugurating the SPPG in Citaringgul, Babakan Madang Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Monday.

Kalya, a graduate of SMA Bina Nusantara (Binus) Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten, has been accepted into seven leading global universities for the 2026/2027 academic year intake.
An official statement from SMA Bina Nusantara (Binus) Serpong in Jakarta on Monday mentioned that the seven universities are University College London (UCL), King’s College London, The University of Edinburgh, Kyoto University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Hong Kong, and Universitas Indonesia.
