Yesterday: Jatiwaringin landfill emergency response and Krakatau video hoax

The Tangerang Regency government has declared a 14-day emergency response status for the fire at the Jatiwaringin landfill in Mauk District, effective from 1 to 14 July 2026. Regent Moch. Maesyal Rasyid stated that the status, issued through a regent decree, aims to optimise the handling of the disaster by a joint task force. ‘In accordance with the legislation, once the regent’s decree on the emergency status is issued, the regulation is in effect for 14 days,’ he said.

Meanwhile, the regent reported that 22 residents living near the Jatiwaringin landfill fire have received special medical assistance after contracting acute respiratory infections due to smoke exposure. ‘Out of over a hundred residents indicated to have ISPA, 22 are still being treated by community health centre officers from the Tangerang Regency Health Office,’ he noted.

In education news, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said the policy scenario for involving school canteens in the distribution of the Free Nutritious Meals programme is still being formulated with the National Nutrition Agency. ‘So there is no decision yet on how canteens and other services will be involved. To ensure the programme runs well, everything must undergo in-depth assessment,’ he said. The ministry also announced its readiness to launch the Integrated National Schools programme this year to address increasingly tight global competition in education quality.

Separately, the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that a video circulating on social media claiming to show an eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau from a ship is a hoax. Acting Head of the Geological Agency Lana Saria urged the public not to believe or share unverified videos, emphasising that official information on the volcano’s activity is only disseminated through the agency’s official channels, PVMBG, and MAGMA Indonesia.
