Several humanitarian developments occurred in Indonesia on Tuesday, 10 March, ranging from the National Nutrition Agency clarifying viral videos regarding raw catfish in the Free Nutritious Meal Programme menu to the government strengthening food oversight ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.
BGN clarifies MBG catfish and marinated tempeh menu viral in Pamekasan
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) clarified a viral video showing the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) menu at a school in Pamekasan District, East Java, on Monday, 9 March, containing marinated catfish and tempeh. Deputy Head of BGN Nanik Sudaryati Deyang explained that based on field reports, the meal package prepared by the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit actually comprised several menu components: marinated catfish, fried tofu and tempeh, pizza bread, boiled eggs, full-cream milk, and dragon fruit.
Coordinating Minister for Food: MBG operates according to government nutrition standards
The Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan assured that the Free Nutritious Meal Programme operates satisfactorily and in accordance with nutrition standards established by the government. “Everyone is happy and delighted. Children are pleased to receive nutritious meals, and senior secondary school students and equivalent likewise welcome the MBG Programme,” he said during a working visit to Jepara District to inspect implementation of the MBG programme at several secondary schools and equivalent institutions in Jepara, Central Java, on Tuesday, 10 March.

Viral MBG raw milkfish in Bantul, BGN confirms fish properly cooked
The National Nutrition Agency ensured that milkfish in the menu distributed under the Free Nutritious Meal Programme at the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit Bantul Sedayu Argosari, Special Region of Yogyakarta, had undergone cooking processes and was in properly cooked condition. The clarification followed circulation of a video on social media claiming that milkfish in the MBG menu remained raw.
Government strengthens food oversight ahead of Eid al-Fitr to protect public
The Drug and Food Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and the Jakarta Provincial Government intensified food oversight during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H as part of their commitment to protect the community. BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar stated in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March, that they visited two strategic locations in the capital: the production facility of PT Mustika Citra Rasa (Holland Bakery) in North Jakarta and the Lotte Wholesale Market Pasar Rebo facility in East Jakarta.
