Sanaa (ANTARA) - The Yemeni Houthi movement’s leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi has stated their support for Iran, which is at odds with the United States and Israel, and said they are ready to take action if necessary.

“When developments (the situation) require it, our hands are ready to pull the trigger at any time,” Abdulmalik said in a speech broadcast on Al-Masirah TV, operated by the Houthis, on Thursday (6 March), according to Xinhua.

He said that Iran’s battle is a battle for the whole nation, not just for one side.

Abdulmalik also accused Israel and “all its instruments” of seeking to impose a violative situation in Iran and intending “to ignite open war against the peaceful people of that nation without any control, restraint, or commitment whatsoever.”

Abdulmalik warned that the “enemy” is preparing a list of targets and seeking financial support from several Arab states, while hoarding weapons before choosing the right time.

He also urged Iran’s supporters to participate in mass protests on Friday (6 March), which will send an important message at a sensitive moment, and aim to reaffirm the Yemeni people’s full support for the Iranian people.

Earlier on Thursday (5 March), the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, emphasised the importance of protecting Yemen from being dragged into a new cycle of regional confrontation.

“No party has the right to drag that country into a broader conflict that would bring more suffering to the Yemeni people,” Grundberg said.

The internationally recognised Yemeni government also warned the Houthis not to engage in any military actions that risk supporting Iran’s agenda or using Yemeni territory as a platform to target neighbouring countries or international interests.
