'Yellow fever' hits Lahat

LAHAT, South Sumatra: Regent Solichin Daud has ordered residents to paint their houses, fences, shops and offices yellow, the color of the ruling political organization, Golkar.

Solichin said that the "yellow-fication campaign" aims at making the area look more "clean and beautiful", Antara reported.

The local administration hopes it will can win the much- coveted Adipura Award from the central government for its cleanliness.

The same "yellow-fication" campaign sparked controversy in several regencies in Central Java last year.

Solichin has given residents until the end of March to paint their property yellow. He offered free bamboo to those too poor to build fences. (pan)
