Yayuk wanted in Wismilak Open

JAKARTA (JP): The organizing committee of the US$100,000 Wismilak Open in Surabaya, East Java, has offered Indonesian tennis queen Yayuk Basuki a wild card entry in an attempt to raise the competition standard of the women's tennis tournament.

Tournament director Agus Susanto said yesterday the organizers considered giving Yayuk free entry since she has yet to confirm her participation.

"We have the right to grant two players wild card entry in the main draw," Agus was quoted by Antara as saying. "We badly want Yayuk to play here, instead of other tournaments abroad."

Yayuk topped the seeding list in the inaugural tournament last year, but fell in the quarterfinals at the hand of eventual champion Elena Wagner of Germany. Yayuk, however, gained consolation when she won the doubles with Romana Tedjakusuma. (amd)
