Yayuk to play in Surabaya
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian tennis queen Yayuk Basuki will play some of Asia's best women players in the US$100,000 Wismilak Open Championships slated for Nov. 7-13 on the recently renovated hard court surface of the Embong Sawo stadium in Surabaya, East Java.
Taiwan's number one, Wang Shi Ting and China's number one Fang Li, ranked 49th and 69th respectively by the World Tennis Association as well as Japan's Nana Miyagi (65th) and Australia's Kristine Radford (55th) have confirmed their entry along with 44 other participants in the championships.
The championships are part of the third leg of the World Tennis Association tour in Asia. The other part of the third leg will be held in Taiwan, Nov. 14-21.
The tour's first leg was held in Beijing, China, in February and the second leg in Tokyo, Japan and Pattaya, Thailand, last April.
After losing to Japan's top seeded Kimiko Date 0-6, 7-5, 0-6 at the Asian Games in Hiroshima, Yayuk fell 4-6, 6-3 to Latvia's Larisa Neiland in the Brighton tournament in England, and gave up 3-6, 0-6 to Germany's Anke Huber in another tournament in Essen, Germany (arf).
