Yayuk improves world ranking

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian tennis queen Yayuk Basuki, who was eliminated in the third round of the French Open by Lindsay Davenport, has improved her world ranking from 28th to 26th.

The Women's Tennis Association announced on Tuesday that Yayuk had earned 51.9286 points, Antara reported.

Belgian Sabine Appelmans, who beat Yayuk at the Federation Cup championships here in April, followed her in 27th position with 47.7161 points.

Monica Seles of the United States earned 396.9500 points and the French Open winner Steffi Graf of Germany earned 326.8571 points. These players still share the number one world ranking. (yan)
