Yayuk climbs 3 sports to 26 best in world

JAKARTA (JP): Yayuk Basuki, Indonesia's number-one women's tennis player, has jumped to 26th place on the WTA rankings issued Monday.

Yayuk gained three places on last month's rankings after good results in several international tournaments.

Yayuk has 890 points, well in front of any other Asian woman.

Ai Sugiyama of Japan is 30th with 814 points, Wang Shi Ting of Taiwan is 38th with 640, Naoko Sawamatsu of Japan is 43rd with 538 and Tamarine Tanagusan of Thailand is 53rd with 439.

Five other Japanese players -- Naoko Kijimutu, Yuka Yoshida, Rika Hiraki, Mana Endo and Miho Saeki -- have made the top 100.

Martina Hingis of Switzerland still leads the rankings with 5,020 points, followed by Steffi Graf of Germany with 4,249 and Monica Seles of the United States with 3,517. (lnt)
