Yayuk and Vis win du Maurier Open

TORONTO (Agencies): Indonesia's Yayuk Basuki and Caroline Vis
of the Netherlands upset the second-seeded team of Nicole Arendt
and Manon Bollegraf of the Netherlands 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 at the du
Maurier Open on Sunday.

Yayuk/Vis, sixth seeded in the tournament, reached their
second title this year after winning the Acura Classic tournament
in Los Angeles, California, two weeks ago.

The du Maurier Open and Acura Classic were the warm up
tournaments before the US Open, with the Atlanta tournament this
week.

The US Open, which is the last Grand Prix series after the
Australia Open, the France Open and the Wimbledon, will take
place in New York from Aug. 25 to Sept. 7.

But Yayuk will have to work hard to realize her ambition to
make the top 20 because she hasn't been successful in the US Open
in the last five years. Right now she is ranked 24th in the
world.

Former number one Monica Seles of the United States defeated
Anke Huber of Germany 6-2, 6-4 for her third straight title and
bagged US$ 150,000.

Seles, who started the week ranked third on the WTA Tour, will
be second to Martina Hingis when the next rankings are released.
Hingis didn't play in the du Maurier because of visa problems.

Seles hit 22 winners but added 28 unforced errors, while Huber
had only 15 winners -- none in the second set -- and 34 unnecessary
miscues, a gift Seles needed.

Huber double-faulted eight times, the last one coming on match
point -- a fitting end to a faulty final.
