YASOP, Artha Graha Peduli Strengthen Character Education Through Community Service
The YASOP Peduli 2026 programme has been launched as a collaboration between Yayasan Tunas Bangsa Soposurung (YASOP), Artha Graha Peduli (AGP), and Paryasop (the Yasop Alumni Association). Carrying the spirit of ‘From the Heart for Others’, this programme provides not only social assistance but also serves as a medium for character education through real-world experience in serving the community.
Hundreds of basic food packages, containing rice, sugar, cooking oil, and instant noodles, were distributed to heads of households in the Hinalang, Sangkar Ni Huta, Pagar Batu, and Balige Kota areas on Sunday, 5 July 2026. The distribution was carried out door-to-door by 360 students from the Yasop Dormitory as part of their character building, focusing on leadership, social awareness, mutual cooperation, and community service.
The event was attended by the Toba Regency Government. The Regent of Toba, Effendi P. Napitupul, noted that YASOP Peduli provides significant benefits to the community and plays a vital role in shaping the character of the younger generation.
“The Toba Regency Government supports YASOP Peduli because it does not only assist the community but also builds the character of the youth. This programme serves as a real learning space for Yasop Dormitory students to develop empathy and the ability to interact directly with the public,” said Effendi P. Napitupul.
To ensure that aid reaches the intended recipients, the committee conducted data collection and verification alongside village officials using a digital survey application. This process included assessing recipient criteria, documenting housing conditions, and recording GPS coordinates to ensure the distribution was targeted, verified, transparent, and accountable. The distribution also utilised local transport to support the empowerment of the Balige community.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Tunas Bangsa Soposurung, Luthfi Mangaratua Krida Silalahi, stated that YASOP Peduli is an implementation of character education realised through direct action.
“YASOP Peduli 2026 is a tangible manifestation of the Yayasan Tunas Bangsa Soposurung philosophy: Character First, Competence Second. We believe that character is the primary foundation for forming leaders capable of bringing meaning to others. Therefore, together with Artha Graha Peduli, we want to nurture a generation of Tunas Bangsa that is full of integrity, empathy, and a spirit of service.
