Yaqut's Words Upon Being Rearrested by KPK: Alhamdulillah, I Could Pay Respects to Mother

Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has spoken out about his status, which had temporarily been changed to house arrest. Yaqut acknowledged that the transfer of his detention was based on a family request.

“Our request,” said Yaqut upon arriving at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Yaqut did not comment much on the four-day house arrest status he received. He stated that the transfer of his detention allowed him to pay respects to his mother during the Eid al-Fitr moment.

“Alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother, to my dear mother,” Yaqut said.

The KPK is known to have resumed detention in the KPK detention centre against Yaqut in the alleged corruption case of Hajj quotas. Before being returned to the detention centre, Yaqut underwent a health examination.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the transfer of the type of detention was carried out on Monday (23/3). The process is part of the ongoing investigation needs.

“Today, the KPK carried out the process of transferring the type of detention for suspect YCQ from house arrest back to KPK detention centre detention,” Budi said in his statement on Monday (23/3).

Yaqut has been detained by the KPK since Thursday (12/3). However, a week later, Yaqut’s detention was temporarily shifted to house arrest.
