The wife of former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Eny Retno Yaqut, has expressed appreciation for the detention deferral granted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to her husband, who is currently receiving hospital treatment. In a statement confirmed on Thursday, Eny said Yaqut had to be hospitalised after experiencing health problems with his digestive system in recent days. “Gus Yaqut apparently had to be hospitalised because he experienced severe health problems in recent days, such as in his digestive tract,” said Eny. She said the family was grateful to the KPK medical team who immediately referred Yaqut to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta for further treatment. Eny admitted she only found out about Yaqut’s health condition when she visited him on Monday morning. She hopes Yaqut’s condition will improve after undergoing treatment at the Police Hospital since Wednesday. “Hopefully this effort will go smoothly and Gus Yaqut will recover. Thank you to everyone who has not stopped giving support and prayers to my husband,” said Eny. The KPK previously announced the detention deferral for Yaqut on Wednesday due to him suffering from digestive health problems. The KPK stated that the deferral was carried out to ensure the suspect’s basic rights were fulfilled. The KPK began investigating the alleged corruption case in the Indonesian hajj quota for 2023-2024 on 9 August 2025. Based on the audit results from the Supreme Audit Agency received by the KPK on 27 February 2026, the potential state loss in the case reached Rp622 billion. The KPK detained Yaqut at the KPK Detention Centre on 12 March 2026. His detention status was temporarily changed to house arrest on 19 March 2026 at the family’s request, before he was again detained at the KPK detention centre on 24 March 2026.
