Yaqut's Detention Transfer: Prabowo's Opportunity to Prove Himself as Commander in Eradicating Corruption
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Praswad Nugraha has called on President Prabowo Subianto to investigate allegations of legal intervention in the transfer of custody for former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
“We urge President Prabowo Subianto to seriously investigate the possibility of intervention against the KPK that has caused violations of the system and integrity that have been maintained so far,” said Praswad Nugraha, when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026).
Praswad stated that Prabowo needs to take serious action to prevent interventions in the law enforcement process at the KPK.
According to him, this moment is the right opportunity for Prabowo to show his seriousness in efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia.
The KPK’s decision to transfer Yaqut’s detention to house arrest is considered an odd decision.
“This is an event that has never happened throughout the history of the KPK’s existence. This practice is not only odd but also opens up grey areas in the standards of law enforcement that have been strictly maintained by the KPK,” he said.
This KPK decision is seen as eroding public trust and causing distrust in the law enforcement process.
“The public can see law enforcement in this country as nothing more than empty talk,” Praswad continued.
Praswad urged the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) to examine the KPK leadership over this matter.
“We urge the KPK Supervisory Board to act immediately and examine the KPK leadership who approved this policy. If violations are found, ethical sanctions must be imposed firmly to maintain the institution’s integrity,” he added.
