JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has acknowledged that the request to be transferred to house arrest was made by him and his family. “Our request,” said Yaqut, as he was escorted into the KPK’s Red and White Building on Tuesday (24/3/2026). Yaqut declined to elaborate much on the reasons for the transfer of his detention. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to pay respects to his mother while under house arrest. Yaqut arrived at the KPK’s Red and White Building around 10:33 WIB. He was immediately escorted through the lobby to the upper floor and then taken to the detention house. Yaqut was seen wearing an orange detention vest right away. On this day, Yaqut returned to being a detainee at the KPK Detention Centre after previously being under house arrest for several days. This transfer marks the second time for Yaqut since being detained by the KPK on Thursday (12/3/2026). One week later, on Thursday (19/3/2026), Yaqut was transferred to house arrest at his family’s request. The announcement of this detention status change was made by the KPK only on Saturday (21/3/2026), coinciding with the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H celebration. “Today, Monday 23 March 2026, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect YCQ in the case of alleged criminal corruption in Hajj quotas, from house arrest back to KPK detention house,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Monday night. After the transfer was announced, Yaqut was not immediately taken to the KPK Detention Centre because he needed to undergo a health examination first. Yaqut’s health was checked at Bhayangkara Police Hospital, East Jakarta.
