Yaqut Undergoes Medical Examination, Set to Return to KPK Detention Centre Soon?

After previously being under house arrest status, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas underwent a medical examination on Monday afternoon, 23 March 2026. This is said to be a determining factor in whether he will return to the KPK detention centre. The examination took place amid public attention regarding the change in Yaqut’s detention status, which had previously raised questions. “Still undergoing medical examination,” stated his lawyer Dodi Abdul Kadir to reporters. He emphasised that the doctor’s examination results will be an important basis for determining the next steps for his client. However, Yaqut’s legal representative did not disclose the hospital location where the examination was conducted. Dodi also revealed that this examination is the first comprehensive one conducted, after Yaqut had not yet undergone a complete medical test at the beginning of his detention. It is known that former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was reported not to be in the KPK detention centre during the Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2026. That news was revealed by the wife of the suspect former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, namely Silvia Rinita Harefa, regarding former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas not celebrating Eid in the state detention centre. Silvia is known to have visited her husband on 21 March 2026, who is a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the form of extortion, and conveyed to the journalists waiting for her that there was circulating information among the detainees about Yaqut not being seen in the detention centre. “Earlier, I didn’t see Gus Yaqut. The info is, apparently he left on Thursday night (19 March),” said Silvia. She obtained information that Yaqut was also not seen during the Eid al-Fitr prayer on 21 March 2026. “According to people inside, he’s not there. He’s not present,” she said. When further confirmed whether only Ebenezer knew that information, she stated that all detainees knew. “Everyone knows about it. They’re just wondering. Apparently there’s an examination, but it’s impossible to have an examination on the eve of takbiran night, right? Even until today (Saturday, 21 March), there’s none,” she explained. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut – a suspect in the hajj quota corruption – has not been at the KPK detention centre since the night of 19 March 2026. Yaqut’s detention status has been changed to house arrest.
