Yaqut Returns to Detention: Alhamdulillah, I Got to Pay Respects to My Mother

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas expressed gratitude yesterday for being under house arrest, which allowed him to pay respects to his mother. “Yes, alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother, my dear mother,” said Yaqut, as he was escorted into the KPK’s Red and White Building on Tuesday (24/3/2026). Based on observations at the location, Yaqut immediately put on an orange vest. While wearing a black peci, Yaqut appeared to be holding his hands. This transfer is the second for Yaqut since being detained by the KPK on Thursday (12/3/2026). One week later, on Thursday (19/3/2026), Yaqut’s status was changed to house arrest upon a request from his family. The KPK announced this change in detention status on Saturday (21/3/2026), coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. After the policy drew attention, Yaqut was again transferred to detention in the KPK’s facility starting Monday (23/3/2026). “Today, Monday, 23 March 2026, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect Mr. YCQ in the case of alleged criminal corruption regarding the Hajj quota, from house arrest back to KPK detention,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Monday night. Yaqut underwent a health check at Bhayangkara Police Hospital, East Jakarta. In this case, Yaqut carried out several conditioning steps to manage the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. This included changing regulations to technical implementation. Yaqut first relaxed the special Hajj quota rules by ordering the Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organisers, Hilman Latief.
