Yaqut Re-designated as KPK Detention Centre Inmate

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has once again designated former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a detainee at the KPK detention centre. “Today, Monday, 23 March 2026, the KPK carried out the process of changing the type of detention for Suspect Mr. YCQ in the case of alleged criminal corruption in the hajj quota, from house arrest back to detention at the KPK detention centre,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in an official statement received by CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (23/3). To return to the KPK detention centre, Yaqut first underwent a series of health examinations. He will be immediately placed in the KPK detention centre if he passes the health checks. The examination of Yaqut was conducted today by a team of doctors at Bhayangkara Hospital, East Jakarta. “We will all wait for the results of this health test,” said Budi. The KPK guarantees that the investigation into the hajj quota corruption case involving Yaqut will continue until it is handed over to the prosecution stage. “On this occasion, we also express our thanks to all Indonesian people who continue to monitor and support the KPK in handling this case,” he said. The KPK faced widespread criticism after secretly changing Yaqut’s status from KPK detention centre detainee to house arrest. The revelation that Yaqut was on house arrest began with a statement from the wife of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer (Noel), Silvia Rinita Harefa, to journalists, after visiting Noel during the Eid al-Fitr holiday on Saturday (21/3). “I didn’t see Gus Yaqut earlier. The info is that he was released on Thursday night,” said Silvia at the KPK detention centre on Saturday (21/3). After the testimony from Noel’s wife became widely discussed, the KPK then issued a statement confirming that Yaqut was on house arrest. The KPK admitted that the change in detention status was not related to Yaqut’s health condition. “It’s not because of illness. It was indeed due to a request from the family, which we then processed,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Sunday (22/3).
