Yaqut Questions KPK's Method for Determining Rp622 Billion State Loss in Indictment

Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has challenged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to openly disclose the state financial loss in the alleged hajj corruption case, which has been set at Rp622 billion. Yaqut urged the KPK to prove the loss.

“The state loss, I think, must also be opened up transparently,” Yaqut said after attending a hearing in the alleged hajj quota corruption case with the agenda of reading the objection at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Yaqut questioned the methodology used by the KPK to calculate the state financial loss. He questioned which state funds were reduced as a result of the hajj quota allocation process as alleged by the KPK.

“It cannot simply be declared a state loss of Rp622 billion without a clear method. Which state funds were reduced from the implementation of this quota allocation process, and so on. This must be proven transparently,” Yaqut said.

Yaqut also considered the KPK indictment to be imprecise and incomplete. He criticised the KPK prosecutors for conflating ministerial policy with technical policy that should fall under the directorate general’s domain.

“Ministerial policy is being mixed up with technical policy that should be the domain of the directorate general. So it is being directed to make the policy a mistake of the Minister, when it should not be so,” Yaqut said.
