Yaqut Questioned as Banser Crowds Gather at KPK Building

Jakarta — Banser (Barisan Ansor Serbaguna) supporters gathered at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta as former Religion Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas attended questioning by the Corruption Eradication Commission on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

According to Kompas.com’s monitoring, Banser supporters arrived at the KPK building at 16:39 local time. They arrived using six tour buses and one minibus, with an additional speech vehicle leading hundreds of supporters. One speaker expressed their concern that Gus Yaqut should not be criminalised.

Yaqut arrived at the KPK headquarters at 13:00 local time to respond to a summons as a suspect in the alleged hajj quota corruption case. He was escorted by three people and accompanied by his legal counsel, Melissa Anggraini.

“I’m here in response to the KPK investigators’ invitation, in God’s name,” Yaqut said. “This is my opportunity to provide a statement.” When asked about the possibility of his detention that day, Yaqut did not respond seriously, quipping, “Ask yourself.”
