Jakarta - The shift in detention status from correctional facility to house arrest by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is said to be the first since the agency’s inception, as seen in the case of former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

“Since 2003 (the effective year of establishment) of the KPK, there has never been a case where a detainee in a correctional facility was moved to house arrest,” stated MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026).

He cited the case of Lukas Enembe, who remained under medical care in hospital without being transferred to house arrest. Lukas underwent treatment at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto until his death on 26 December 2023.

“Even if a detainee falls ill, they are only allowed hospital admission; they are not permitted to return home, even for a single night. For example, Papua Governor Lukas Enembe,” said Boyamin.

It is known that Yudi served as a KPK investigator from 2013 to 2021.

“Throughout my time as a KPK investigator, there has never been a case where a person, after recovering, was placed under house arrest,” explained Yudi.

It is understood that the KPK shifted Yaqut’s detention status from correctional facility to house arrest since Thursday night (19/3/2026).

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the decision was made following a request from the family and granted in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). The shift in detention is temporary.

Yaqut has been detained since Thursday night (12/3/2026) following further examination as a suspect, after his pre-trial lawsuit was rejected by the South Jakarta District Court.

In this case, Yaqut is alleged to have engaged in conditioning in the arrangement of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota. The KPK states that the case resulted in state losses of Rp 622 billion.

For his actions, Yaqut is charged under Article 2 paragraph (1) and/or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.
