Yaqut Placed Under House Arrest, KPK: All Suspects May Apply for Requests
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that all detainees may submit requests for house arrest, as done by former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
“Requests can be submitted, which will then be reviewed by the investigators,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in Jakarta on Sunday (22/3/2026).
It is known that Yaqut’s detention was transferred from the detention centre to house arrest following a request from his family.
“It is not because of illness. It is indeed due to a request from the family, which we then processed,” Budi stated.
This is one strategy related to whether someone is detained or not.
“Because the authority for detention lies with the investigators,” Budi added.
It was reported that the KPK transferred the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from the KPK detention centre to house arrest.
“The investigators have changed the type of detention for suspect YCQ, from detention in the KPK Detention Centre to house arrest, starting from Thursday night (19/3/2026),” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Saturday (21/3/2026).
“The request was then reviewed and granted with considerations in accordance with Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code,” Budi continued.
Budi said that this transfer of detention is only for a temporary period.
Yaqut was only held in prison for approximately 7 days, or one week.
He was officially detained by the KPK since Thursday night (12/3/2026).
Yaqut is charged under Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.
The KPK revealed that the state losses due to this alleged corruption case in the Hajj quota amount to Rp 622 billion.
