Yaqut Placed Under House Arrest, DPR Commission III Leader: As Long As He Doesn't Escape
Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of DPR RI Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, assesses that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has the authority to transfer former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest.
Sahroni reminds that Yaqut must not escape from KPK supervision.
“As long as he doesn’t escape and disappear, it would damage the KPK institution itself,” said Sahroni when confirmed on Sunday (22/3/2026).
According to him, the KPK should still detain Yaqut in the detention centre.
Sahroni added that the transfer from detention centre to house arrest can be done as long as there is a guarantee from the family and approved by the KPK.
“He should be detained, but ultimately, the rules and stance are known to the KPK internally,” he stated.
Previously reported, the KPK transferred the detention of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from the detention centre to house arrest due to a request from the family.
In its statement, the KPK explained that the request from Yaqut’s family was submitted on Tuesday (17/3/2026). However, the detailed reasons for the family’s request were not explained.
“A request from the family side,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed by Kompas.com on Saturday (21/3/2026).
This detention transfer was carried out after reviewing Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code.
The KPK states that this transfer is only temporary and remains supervised.
“During the implementation of this detention transfer, the KPK continues to conduct close supervision and security for the individual,” Budi continued.
