Jakarta - The Coordinator of the Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), Boyamin Saiman, has requested that the KPK return former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to detention in a remand centre.

“I ask the KPK to carry out detention in a remand centre, not house arrest or city detention or anything else. This is for the sake of justice,” Boyamin said when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026).

Boyamin stated that Yaqut’s status as a house detainee constitutes discrimination against other detainees.

This is because Yaqut is not in a state of illness, and the transfer is close to Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

“Suddenly, without being sick, it’s postponed, especially approaching Eid. So, this becomes discrimination; the others remain detained while Gus Yaqut is shifted to house arrest as if for Eid,” Boyamin continued.

Boyamin alluded to the brevity of Yaqut’s detention period in the remand centre as a lack of seriousness on the part of the investigators.

“The question is simple: why was he detained in the first place if he’s then going to be postponed or transferred? Maybe they shouldn’t have detained him at all so the public wouldn’t be disappointed,” he added.

According to him, Yaqut’s suspect status is now legitimate.

If the KPK had no intention of detaining Yaqut from the start, this could have been done.

“Once detained, don’t then make it yo-yo like this, making the public annoyed. Therefore, detention must be reinstated,” he said again.

It was reported that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) shifted the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from remand centre detention to house arrest.

“The investigators carried out a change in the type of detention for the suspect Mr YCQ, from detention in the KPK Remand Centre to house arrest, starting from Thursday night (19/3/2026),” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Saturday (21/3/2026).

Budi said that this detention change was made upon a request from the family submitted on Tuesday (17/3/2026).
