JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The whereabouts of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas have become a point of concern in the KPK detention centre environment. This arose after several detainees reported no longer seeing Yaqut.

Former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer conveyed through his wife, Silvia Harefa, that Yaqut has not been seen in the detention centre since Thursday night (19/3/2026).

Furthermore, Silvia was informed that Yaqut was absent from the line of detainees performing Eid al-Fitr prayers at the KPK Merah Putih Mosque this morning.

“They were just wondering, they said there was an examination, but it’s impossible to have an examination on the eve of Takbiran night like that. Up to today, he’s still not there,” Silvia explained.

Kompas.com’s on-site observation also confirmed that Yaqut’s figure was not visible when the detainees exited after performing Eid al-Fitr prayers.

Yaqut’s whereabouts were finally confirmed after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) changed his detention status from detention centre to house arrest.

“Investigators have changed the type of detention for suspect YCQ from detention at the KPK Detention Centre to house arrest, starting from Thursday night (19/3/2026),” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Saturday (21/3/2026).

“Following the request, it was reviewed and granted with considerations in accordance with Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law No. 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code,” Budi continued.

Budi said that this detention transfer is only temporary.

“During the implementation of this detention change, the KPK continues to conduct close supervision and security for the individual concerned,” Budi added.

The KPK detained Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota on Thursday night (12/3/2026).

Yaqut was officially detained after being examined as a suspect at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta.

“Today, the KPK has detained Suspect YCQ for the first 20 days starting from 12-31 March 2026. The detention is carried out at the State Detention House (Rutan) Branch of the KPK Merah Putih Building,” said Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu in a press conference at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Thursday.

The KPK revealed that the state losses due to this alleged Hajj quota corruption case amount to Rp 622 billion.
