Yaqut Cholil Qoumas Officially Returns as KPK Detention Centre Inmate
Former Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, has officially returned to the state detention centre (rutan) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Yaqut arrived at the KPK building today wearing an orange detainee vest.
Upon entering the KPK building, Yaqut did not say much. He only expressed happiness at being able to pay respects to his parents during the recent Eid celebrations when he was under house arrest status.
“Alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother. To my dear mother,” said Yaqut on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.
Meanwhile, citing the ANTARA website, based on statements from KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, Yaqut underwent medical examinations from Monday night, 23 March 2026, until Tuesday morning.
“From last night (Monday, 23/3) until this morning (Tuesday, 24/3), the medical team has been conducting a series of health examinations at Bhayangkara Hospital, East Jakarta,” he said.
He added that the investigation into the Hajj quota case is progressing positively.
“Investigators are also continuing to focus on completing the investigation file so that it can soon be handed over to the prosecution stage,” he stated.
Previously, on 21 March 2026, the wife of the defendant in the alleged corruption case involving extortion and former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, Silvia Rinita Harefa, spoke to journalists after visiting her husband.
Silvia told the journalists waiting for her that there was information circulating among the detainees about Yaqut not being seen in the state detention centre or rutan.
“I didn’t see Gus Yaqut earlier. The info is that he left on Thursday night (19/3),” said Silvia on Saturday, 21 March.
She continued that she received information that Yaqut was also not seen during the Eid al-Fitr prayer on 21 March 2026.
“People inside said he wasn’t there. He wasn’t there,” she said.
When further questioned whether only Ebenezer knew about this information, she stated that all detainees knew.
“Everyone knows about it. They were just wondering. They said there was an examination, but it’s unlikely to have an examination on the eve of Takbiran night like that. Even until today (Saturday, 21 March), there wasn’t any,” she explained.
