Yaqut Camp Compares Suspect Status to a Victimless Murder Case
The camp of former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (Gus Yaqut) has rejected all of the KPK’s answers in the praperadilan (pre-trial) hearing regarding the haj quota corruption case. Yaqut’s camp likened the designation of Yaqut as a suspect to a murder case in which there is no victim yet a suspect has been named. “Thus, the designation as a suspect in a corruption case, without a clear and provable calculation of state losses, is the same as declaring someone a murder suspect when no one has died yet. The one who died does not exist, yet someone has already been declared the perpetrator of murder,” said Yaqut’s counsel Mellisa Anggraini at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
