The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has disclosed that former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) suffers from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and acute asthma. KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayupada, stated that a health assessment was conducted on Yaqut prior to changing his status to house arrest last week. The assessment revealed that Yaqut has acute GERD, for which he has undergone endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. “We inform you that one of the results from the health assessment is that the individual suffers from acute GERD, and has undergone endoscopy and colonoscopy. I’m not entirely familiar with the medical terms, so colleagues can check later. He also suffers from asthma,” Asep said at the KPK building on Tuesday (24/3). Due to this condition, KPK granted Yaqut’s request for house arrest in the alleged corruption case concerning Hajj quotas last Thursday. On Tuesday (24/3), KPK has transferred Yaqut back to state detention at the facility in the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta. “We have transferred the detention of Mr YCQ back to the state detention house at K4 in this KPK building,” he said. He explained that the return to routine detention is to ensure the case handling runs smoothly and swiftly. “We extend our utmost thanks to all of society who have supported our processes and activities in handling this criminal corruption act,” Asep stated. Yaqut arrived around 10:40 WIB this morning. He did not say much upon arriving at KPK. He only mentioned that he was able to pay respects to his mother during Eid while under house arrest. “Alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother, to my mum,” Yaqut said briefly. Previously, KPK stated that the transfer to house arrest for Yaqut was not due to health reasons. “Not because of illness,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, as quoted from detik.com, last Sunday (21/3). Budi explained that the house arrest for Yaqut was carried out after KPK received a request from his family. The request was then reviewed and granted based on considerations in accordance with Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code.
