Yap arrested for drunk driving

KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A Malaysian judge Tuesday ordered the
arrest of a former top badminton player for failing to show up at
a hearing on drunk driving charges, the national Bernama news
agency reported.

Magistrate Court Judge Lim Kui Lee issued an arrest warrant
for Yap Kim Hock, a former Malaysian doubles player once ranked
No. 1 in the world. Yap had been stopped by police for alleged
drunk driving on New Year's Day.

Yap was part of a celebrated partnership with Cheah Soon Kit
for several years. They won numerous international badminton
tournaments and clinched the men's doubles silver medal in the
1996 Olympics and the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
