KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A Malaysian judge Tuesday ordered the arrest of a former top badminton player for failing to show up at a hearing on drunk driving charges, the national Bernama news agency reported.
Magistrate Court Judge Lim Kui Lee issued an arrest warrant for Yap Kim Hock, a former Malaysian doubles player once ranked No. 1 in the world. Yap had been stopped by police for alleged drunk driving on New Year's Day.
Yap was part of a celebrated partnership with Cheah Soon Kit for several years. They won numerous international badminton tournaments and clinched the men's doubles silver medal in the 1996 Olympics and the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
