Yandri Maps 229 Villages in East Flores for Thematic Development, Including Poultry and Export Villages

Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (Mendes PDT) Yandri Susanto plans to develop thematic villages in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The programme will include the development of layer chicken villages, broiler chicken villages, and export-oriented villages. The plan was conveyed by Yandri following a working visit to East Flores on Friday (3/7/2026) and Saturday (4/7/2026). ‘I think I will map the 229 villages first. We might create thematic villages such as a layer chicken village, a broiler chicken village, and plants that can be exported because we have a Village Export and Tourism programme. Later, we just need to coordinate, including with Mr Ahmad Yohan from the House of Representatives Commission IV,’ Yandri said during an interview at Gewayantana Larantuka Airport on Saturday morning (4/7/2026). During his time in East Flores, Yandri said he saw a lot of village potential that deserved to be empowered to improve the community’s economy. According to him, the area has various superior commodities, ranging from cashew nuts and corn to horticultural products. ‘Over these two days, I have seen a lot of potential in East Flores. The village potential I saw includes cashew nuts, corn, fish, honey, coconuts, and horticulture. The land is fertile and the people are hardworking, but collaboration is needed,’ he added. Yandri explained that the Ministry of Villages has two main programmes, namely empowerment and mentoring. According to him, these two programmes must go hand in hand so that government assistance truly has an impact on the community. ‘Empowerment means we provide programmes with affirmations that are truly targeted. But we must not forget mentoring, which needs to involve village heads, village facilitators, and the local government, because if we provide assistance without mentoring, it may not be maximised,’ he said. During his visit, Yandri also admitted he was impressed with Lamakera Village on Solor Island. He assessed that the village community has a strong spirit of mutual cooperation in developing their area. ‘Yesterday I went to Solor Island in Lamakera, the village association was extraordinary in building Lamakera Village. I learned a lot from East Flores,’ he concluded.
