JAKARTA — Yamaha’s position in motorcycle sales in Indonesia remains firmly in second place nationally, trailing Honda’s dominant grip on the two-wheeler market.

Despite this, Yamaha claims its performance has continued to grow throughout 2025 compared to the previous year.

Based on data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), total national motorcycle sales in 2025 reached 6.4 million units. Of this total, Honda remains the leader with sales of approximately 4.9 million units, or nearly 78 per cent market share.

Rifki Maulana, manager of public relations, community and YRA at PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), said that the position as a challenger actually serves as motivation for the company to continuously improve product quality and service.

“It all comes down to the consumer. Back in 2010 or 2011, we were actually in first place,” said Rifki in Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).

“Certainly, as a challenger, we strive to provide the best products, quality, and after-sales service,” he said.

In terms of annual performance, Rifki stated that Yamaha’s sales have increased compared to 2024, although specific figures cannot be disclosed to the public.

According to him, the largest contribution to Yamaha sales still comes from the Maxi scooter segment.

“The backbone remains the Maxi segment, NMAX is number one, second is Classy. NMAX, Aerox, XMAX, Classy between Fazio and Grand Filano is a 50:50 split,” said Rifki.

Meanwhile, the cub/underbone motorcycle segment is considered to still have a market, although its volume is not as large as the scooter segment.

“For the cub market currently, looking back at last year, conditions have been stable for several years even though it is not substantial. At least with the models we have at present, we can meet that demand,” he said.

Models that attract interest include the Jupiter and Vega Force. The MX King, meanwhile, targets enthusiast consumers rather than fleet requirements.
