Yai Mim Dies Suddenly in Custody at Malang City Police Headquarters

Former UIN Malang lecturer, Imam Muslimin alias Yai Mim, was reported to have passed away while about to undergo examination at Malang City Police Headquarters on Monday (13/4). Yai Mim, who was still a suspect in the alleged sexual harassment and pornography case, breathed his last right as he was about to be taken to the Satreskrim investigator’s room. The Head of Public Relations of Malang City Police, Ipda Lukman Sobikhin, confirmed that the incident occurred around 1:45 PM WIB. According to him, Yai Mim suddenly collapsed just after leaving the detention cell. “While being walked to Satreskrim for examination, Yai Mim suddenly fell and went limp. Officers immediately took him to the hospital, but he could not be saved,” Lukman told the media on Monday (13/4). The police quickly rushed Yai Mim to Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA) in Malang for emergency medical assistance. However, the medical team stated that he had already passed away upon arrival at the hospital. The police claimed there were no indications of health problems with Yai Mim before the incident. Earlier that morning before the examination, the Sie Dokkes team of Malang City Police had conducted a routine check on Yai Mim. “The examination results showed that the individual was in good condition with normal blood pressure of 110/80, and no history of health complaints during detention,” he said. During his detention period starting from 19 January 2026, Yai Mim was placed in Detention Room 4 alone without other inmates. The decision to place the suspect in a solitary cell was said to be related to his frequent activities of giving lectures to other detainees. “The individual often gave religious sermons to other detainees, making the others uncomfortable,” Lukman stated. Nevertheless, Lukman emphasised that there was no special treatment or acts of violence from the apparatus during the legal process. He assured that the suspect was treated equally to other detainees. “The individual received no special treatment and was the same as the others. There was no violence from other detainees; he occupied his own room with no other inmates,” he added. As of now, Yai Mim’s body remains at RSSA Malang for further investigation. The police have not yet been able to determine the exact cause of the suspect’s death, who was considered cooperative during the investigation. “The cause is still pending the results of the autopsy from the hospital,” Lukman said. Yai Mim was previously designated as a suspect for alleged violations of Article 36 of the Pornography Law, Article 5 of the Sexual Violence Crime Law (TPKS), and Article 281 of the Criminal Code. The case originated from a report by a resident named Sahara. In this case, the former lecturer at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) Malang faced a potential prison sentence of more than five years.
