Jakarta (ANTARA) – Electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has launched an invite-only mini ride-hailing pilot to test its Yoyo robotaxi service in China.

According to CarNewsChina, Xpeng chief executive He Xiaopeng named the company’s robotaxi service Yoyo on Thursday (8 October) and opened it to users in China through an invitation-based programme.

The public pilot followed more than 2,200 test rides by company employees in vehicles based on the GX model.

Xpeng’s Yoyo robotaxi app is available on WeChat. During the pilot, prospective passengers can set the cabin temperature and activate the air-freshening system before being picked up.

The Xpeng robotaxi is based on the company’s flagship GX SUV and is equipped with four in-house Turing AI chips, which Xpeng says deliver effective computing power of 3,000 tera operations per second (TOPS).

The vehicle runs the second-generation Vision-Language-Action model, VLA 2.0, using a vision-based system without lidar or high-definition maps.

Xpeng says the vehicle is designed for Level 4 autonomous driving, allowing the system to perform driving tasks without human intervention under specified operating conditions.

It is equipped with “zero-gravity” seats designed to minimise pressure on the body, massage functions and rear-seat entertainment screens.

The first mass-produced vehicle rolled off the assembly line in Guangzhou in May 2026.

In July 2026, the company tested the vehicles for employee transport, including online booking, autonomous pick-ups and completion of journeys.

In August 2026, Xpeng obtained a remote-testing qualification in Guangzhou, allowing vehicles to be tested without a safety operator in the driver’s seat on designated Class I, II and III test roads.

He Xiaopeng said the company had completed development of a cloud-based remote intervention platform.

Xpeng is targeting 2027 for the launch of its fully driverless automated ride-hailing service.

The company plans to generate revenue from vehicle sales, technology services and a share of operating income from partners managing local vehicle fleets.

Xpeng is exploring partnerships to provide Yoyo transport services in Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
