Xpeng studies opportunities to market the P7 right-hand-drive version in Indonesia
Jakarta – Xpeng Indonesia is examining opportunities to market the Xpeng P7 electric sedan in a right-hand-drive version in Indonesia. Hari Arifianto, Xpeng Indonesia’s VP of Marketing, said the company is studying Indonesian consumer responses to the Xpeng P7. “Willingness to buy is good. Respons terhadap desain dan fitur juga sesuai ekspektasi,” he said at a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday. He noted that the main challenge in introducing the Xpeng P7 electric sedan in Indonesia lies in the availability of right-hand-drive cars. Hari said that converting left-hand-drive cars to right-hand-drive takes time. He also noted that the Indonesian automotive market is still dominated by SUVs and MPVs, contributing around 60 percent of vehicle sales in Indonesia. “Our production capacity is limited, so we must choose models that best fit the character of the Indonesian market,” he said. Xpeng is also considering delivering the car as a Completely Built Up (CBU) vehicle or as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) components assembled at a local facility. The CKD option is seen as more advantageous because it would allow the company to benefit from government incentives and lower production costs. The company is assessing the opportunity to bring the P7 to the Indonesian market while awaiting readiness to produce the right-hand-drive version and while watching developments in the Indonesian electric-sedan market. “Indeed, we are looking at the character of the Indonesian market. This will of course be a consideration for us when bringing new cars,” Hari said.
