Xpeng Still Exploring Potential to Sell Right-Hand-Drive P7 in Indonesia
Xpeng Indonesia is exploring the potential to market the electric sedan Xpeng P7 in a right-hand-drive version in Indonesia. Hari Arifianto, VP Marketing Xpeng Indonesia, said they are still studying Indonesian consumer responses to the Xpeng P7. ‘The desire to buy is strong. Response to the design and features also meets expectations,’ Hari said at a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday (5 March 2026). He noted that the main challenge in introducing the Xpeng P7 electric sedan in Indonesia lies in the availability of right-hand-drive cars. He said converting left-hand-drive to right-hand-drive takes time. Additionally, the Indonesian automotive market remains dominated by SUVs and MPVs, contributing around 60 per cent of vehicle sales in Indonesia. Hari stated that the company is considering market conditions when determining which new models to bring to Indonesia. ‘Production capacity is limited, so we must select models that best fit the Indonesian market’s character,’ he said. Xpeng is also weighing the option of launching the car as Completely Built Up (CBU) or Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and assembling it at a local facility. The CKD option is considered more advantageous because it allows the company to benefit from government incentives and to streamline production costs. Xpeng is currently working with PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) to assemble its products at the Purwakarta factory in West Java since July 2025. In the initial phase, production focused on the X9 followed by the G6.
